About This Treatment
Ksharsutra therapy has been adapted for chronic anal fissure treatment, particularly in cases where patients prefer an Ayurvedic approach or where the fissure is associated with a sentinel tag or hypertrophied anal papilla.
In fissure treatment, the Ksharsutra thread is applied to the base of the chronic fissure and sentinel tag. The alkaline herbs in the thread promote healing of the fissure base while gradually dissolving any fibrotic tissue that prevents natural healing. Unlike sphincterotomy, this technique does not involve any division of the sphincter muscle.
It is an excellent option for patients who are not candidates for surgery due to other health conditions, or for those who specifically prefer an Ayurvedic approach.
